Thamaturgy is the practical end of magical practices. Meaning, spells, incantations, divination, healing, scrying, and other means of resolving issues in our daily lives. Any magic that is intending to ease the pains and aggravations of living are thaumaturgical in nature. Invoking, and evoking (differences will be posted later), are also the acts of thamaturgy, save for attuning to the deities or spirits, then the acts are in the realm of theurgy. Theurgy is the attunement, and enlightenment of knowledge. Aleister Crowley referred to this as the, "Great Work." Those who study the Qabbalah work through the spheres of consciousness on the Tree of Life. In these spheres they change their perspective, experience the sphere, and integrate the sephiroth on the three pillars until they attain Kether, or the highest and crown sephiroth. Also theurgy consists of divine possession, with most neo-pagans "drawing down the moon," and Voudou with being "ridden by the Gods," or Ancestral spirits, etc. Mystics also have theurgic goals at the core of their practices. But also understand that most magic practitioners utilize both theurgy as well as thaumaturgy. The religious or spiritual side mixed with the practical application.
