Usually depicted as cute, friendly, delicate winged-females - this is the
product of wish-ful thinking. Truth is, they can be tall, slender, fat, short, stocky, grotesque, just as much as they can
be beautiful. They are not usually thought to be-friend humans, but tend to linger on their own, but sometimes they do venture
into our lives, and sometimes bond to human families. However, don't think they're cute and kind - they can be vicious, cruel,
and relentless if crossed, of offerings not left out for them. They have powers over illusion, and enchantment - which
they use to alter emotions, physical appearances, as well as enchanting humans and animals.
The word "fairy," comes from Old French "fée," meaning "enchanter, to enchant." which has ties to the "fata," or "fates,"
that visit on the birth of a child, to divine it's fate and to weave it's cord. "féerie," meant "being enchanted," or "being
in the state of fée." "Fae" is usually used as the terminology to refer to otherworldy beings with powers of magic, and is
not interchangable with "Fairie," or "Fairy," which is an adjective.
